Hey, Christie!

Help!

I am really confused. On social media, the word “demure” is being tossed around regarding fashion and now it applies to bridal bouquet design too. What does it mean?

Thanks in advance for your answer!

Hey, Bella!

You’ve got this and we can help!

We know that words change in meaning depending on how the word is used–especially if that person is a pop culture star.

For instance, most of us knew that the word “bad” was the opposite of “good” until Michael Jackson used the word in his song. Then everyone wanted to be bad.

The same thing recently happened to the word “demure.” Until August 2024, the word “demure” meant “modest, reserved.”

In August 2024, a content creator utilized the word “demure” to describe the mindset of a new aesthetic combining mindfulness, clean design, and a splash of cutesy.

In a few weeks, the hashtag “#demure” was shared over 400,000 times!

How does “demure” apply to bridal bouquet designs?

A bridal bouquet can be demure because of its small size or colars.

Let’s go!

1, Nosegay:

In the 1400s, a nosegay was a small cluster of fragrant flowers which a woman held up to make her nose happy (an earlier meaning of the word “gay”). Today, a nosegay is a dainty bunch of flowers hand-tied with a ribbon or fabric to form a bridal or bridesmaid’s bouquet.

Design: Usually has one dominant flower or one dominant color.

2. Posy:

Similar in size to the nosegay, the posy is packed with a variety of colors,  flowers,  and rich greenery to give you pop of color.

3. Pomander:

Like the nosegay, this design dates back to the Middle Ages when women carried fragrant flowers to offset the awful smells of the time.

A pomander hangs from a strap and is a round ball into which a variety of fragrant flowers, spices, herbs, and greenery are  pinned to create a bridal bouquet.

4. Hoop:

Trending for boho and garden weddings,  the hoop bridal bouquet design features flowers and greenery attached to a round hoop which is either slipped over the wrist or carried by hand.

5. Round:

This dome-shaped bridal bouquet design is elegant, classic, timeless, very controlled, and traditional for formal weddings.
