Hey, John!

Thank you for helping us plan our Ainsworth House & Gardens wedding! You’re the best!

OK, a few more  questions:

When should I get my hair cut before the wedding?

What about shaving? When should I do that?

I appreciate your thoughts.

Hey, Mitch!

Those are great questions!

Let’s dive in…

You may find a ton of info on the Internet about when a bride should get a haircut but remember that men’s hair often grows at a different rate than women’s hair. Don’t rely on information intended for women.

Instead, think of preparing to look great for your wedding as preparing for an incredibly important job interview. After all, your wedding is your job interview for the career of a husband!

What is the suggested timetable for getting a haircut before your wedding?

  1. Get your hair cut now. Most of us get our hair cut a little shorter than we actually want and let it grow out to what we want. If this is you, keep reading.

  2. Keep track of how many days after your haircut elapses until you have your perfect look.

    a. Take note of how you were feeling during this time period between the haircut and the perfect look. Were you stressed? Or did you “Netflix and chill” during this time? Stress can change the rate at which our hair grows. b. If you were incredibly stressed during this time, then you may want to add a day to the time between your haircut and perfect hair.

3. After you know how much time you need between a haircut and perfect hair day, then book your pre-wedding haircut at that same interval.

a. Let’s say that your perfect amount of time between haircut and amazing hair is 11 days. This gives you time to fix anything you don’t like…

or your bride doesn’t like…

b. Then book your pre-wedding haircut 11 days before your wedding. This should allow you to have your best length and it should be easy to style.

When should the groom shave before the wedding?

If you are going for a clean cut look, then shave the morning of your wedding.

If you want a little bit of stubble, then start now, shave, and see if you have the perfect look foe you in 2 or 3 days.

It depends on how much stubble you want and how fast your hair grows. Experiment and see what works best for you.

(Quick note: If you are planning on a spray tan before your wedding, then shave 24 hours or more before the spray tan.)
