Hey, Christie!

After your last amazing blog post, we’ve decided to hire a professional wedding photographer.

Are there any questions we should ask as part of our due diligence before we hire the person?

Thanks!

Hey, Anna-Michelle!

I’m happy to help you!

1. Is the photographer operating legally in your state? Do they have all the licenses and legal entity registrations needed?

  • Do they have a business license in your city, county, or state? (They may need more than one license.)

  • Does the person carry liability insurance?

  • Will the person sign a written contract with you?

2. Check out the person’s portfolio.

Are these the type of photos you seek?

3. What are the photographer’s skills and experience?

Has the person worked in challenging situations such as low light or changing weather?

Did the person capture the best moments at other weddings?

4. Did the photographer convey beautiful storytelling?

5. In the portfolio, are all the photos stunning or only a few? If it’s only a few, run!

6. In the portfolio, do you see photos which show attention to details such as a close-up of the rings or the bride’s wedding dress? These details can help tell your story.

7. Is the photographer willing to help you organize your wedding day so that you get the photos you really want? It could be a great photo with your wedding attendant llamas!
