Romeo and Juliet pas de deux

In 2015, Timofej Andrijashenko, now the premier male ballet dancer for Milan’s La Scala, met Nicoletta Manni, who is now the prima ballerina for the same esteemed company.

In early 2022, Mr. Bolle invited Mr. Andrijashenko and Ms. Manni to perform during his tour, “Roberto Bolle and Friends.”

Timofej confided to his fellow dancer that he was thinking of asking Nicoletta to marry him. Since the tour was scheduled to perform in Verona, Italy—the setting for Shakespeare’s famous play, Romeo and Juliet—Roberto suggested to Timofej that he dance the beautiful balcony scene pas de deux about exhilerating joy of finding the one you love from Prokofiev’s ballet, Romeo and Juliet…and then propose to his lovely partner.

His plan to propose unfolded perfectly with the help of family and friends.

In the audience to cheer for the young couple were his parents and her parents—flown in by Timofej to share in the joy of his proposal.

Nicoletta’s brother, one of the technicians, hid the ring on stage. At the end of the duet, Timofej calmly walked over and retrieved it.

Like an exquisitely  choreographed ballet, his proposal unfolded. As the ovations quieted down and the balmy air enveloped everyone in Verona’s outdoor theater with an elegant grace, Timofej descended to one knee. In a fleeting moment, a Shakespearean romance became a reality in front of a wildly cheering audience.

At first stunned, Nicoleta quickly reacted to show her adoration and elation.

And she said, “Yes!”
